Conquer Negative Self Talk

Positive affirmations are meaningful because what you say about yourself becomes your truth.

Negative self-talk causes low self-esteem. Low self-esteem begins a vicious cycle where you continually feel bad about yourself. The great news is you can change the way you talk to and about yourself. When you defeat negative self-talk, your self-esteem improves. You gain more self-confidence. You feel more optimistic about your life.

If you’re ready to break the cycle of negativity, you need to understand these essential truths.

Actions follow thoughts, so your thoughts are essential.

Your thoughts always precede your actions. When you choose to believe it is your destiny to be overweight, it doesn’t matter how many diet books you buy. Or how many nutritionists you talk to, you are still going to be obese. You will be overweight because you haven’t changed your thinking.

If you desire to change your life, you have to change your thoughts first. Instead of thinking it is your destiny to be overweight, flip the script. Tell yourself, ‘I am in control. I decide what I eat and how much’. You have changed the story you now tell yourself. You went from the victim to the victor.

You don’t have to be carried away by negative thoughts.

You are the only one with authority to change your mental soundtrack. When you have a negative thought does not mean you have to listen to it. You have the power to change your focus. Refuse to concentrate on the terrible day you had, instead think about a pleasure you’re anticipating. How about going home to and getting into your warm pajamas or listening to your daughter’s laughter during a silly bedtime game. When you focus on the positive, you teach yourself to let go of negative thoughts.

Garbage In = Garbage Out

You can’t stay positive if you continuously consume negative information. If you want to change your negative self-talk, you have to focus on consuming good stuff. Read and watch content that lifts you. You feel better. You will notice your self-talk is more optimistic when you focus on good things.

Practice positive affirmations.

What you say about yourself becomes your truth. Practice positive affirmations every day. Start by looking in the mirror and tell yourself, ‘Today, I choose to be happy’ or ‘Today, I choose to accept myself.’ When you speak these thoughts out loud, they begin to affect how you see yourself and how you live your life.

Everyone struggles with negative self-talk. The important thing is not to beat yourself up. Accept that you had a negative thought/feeling and replace it with a positive one.
